Cleansing your skin twice a day undeniably makes your skin healthier and more beautiful. Dirty skin traps dead cells, makeup, oil, and even bacteria. These all contribute to blemishes, the appearance of large pores, and dull skin. If you’re not cleansing regularly, you can be sure that your skin is not at its best.
It doesn’t matter what type of cleanser you use – foaming, exfoliating, or even oil-based, which is a favorite for makeup removal. As long as you are using a cleanser with healthy ingredients and not a bar of soap (more on that later) – you’re doing great!
Still asking why you need a good cleanser? Maybe you don’t wear makeup or maybe you wash your face with soap in the shower with no problem. Here are 5 detailed reasons why:
1. Cleansers remove makeup, dirt, and impurities
Cleansers are a necessary part of hygiene and your overall skin care routine. The most expensive, luxurious, cutting-edge skin care in the world will not improve your skin if you are not cleansing regularly and correctly.
If you’re not cleansing your skin at least once every day, you can forget about luxury artisan serums and treatments. You’re layering them on top of dirt and dead skin and won’t see the results you want.
2. Cleansers exfoliate dead skin cells
A good cleanser will not only wash away dirt and oil, but gently exfoliate away dead skin. But by no means does your cleanser have to double as an exfoliator, especially if you have sensitive skin.
You may find that it’s easier on the skin to cleanse twice daily and exfoliate a few times a week. Check out my post on the 10-step Korean skin care routine for ideas on how to combine cleansing and exfoliation in your routine.
3. Cleansers improve skin health
Regardless of if you have oily or sensitive skin, regular cleansing is essential to healthy skin. Cleansing washes away dirt, bacteria, product, and debris from the environment that is absorbed by the skin and can hurt you over time – a process called bioaccumulation.
4. Cleansers work better than a bar of soap
A lot of people – men especially – are used to washing their faces with a bar of soap. I’m telling you as your Beauty Guru, that’s one of the worst things you can do to your face.
The problem is this – the pH of bar soap is so high that it disrupts the skin on our face’s delicate pH. This causes your skin to dry out, plus a breakdown of the outer protective barrier of the skin. This makes your skin very vulnerable to environmental damage, including free radicals that cause premature aging.
Do I Need a Cleanser if I Have Good Skin? YES!
Getting a good cleanser is never a waste of money. Again, the rest of your skin care routine greatly dwindles in effectiveness when you don’t cleanser your face regularly. Remember, high quality cleansers don’t have to be expensive – they just need to be balanced with your skin’s pH and effectively get rid of dirt and oil.
