There’s nothing quite like the feeling of having a fresh, squeaky clean face. But it isn’t always easy to choose the right cleanser for your needs and skin type. Do you go for oil based? Foaming? Cleansing creams? The options can seem endless!
But don’t fret – I’ve done all the research over the years and I’m here to give you a simple guide on everything you need to know about cleansers. And by the way – if you’re not already totally sold on needing a cleanser, you might want to check out my article on 4 reasons cleansers are everyday essentials.
Oil-Based Cleansers: Great for Makeup Removal
Oil-based cleansers are great for removing waterproof makeup without stripping the skin of its natural oils. However, they aren’t ideal for deep cleaning pores or removing dirt. They leave behind an oil residue that will probably require you to use another non oil-based cleanser to remove.
For the best results, look for oil-based cleansers with natural ingredients like marula oil, jojoba oil, and olive oil – these will all be gentle and hydrating on your skin.
Foaming Face Washes Provide a Deep Cleanse
Foaming cleansers are perfect if you want a general all-purpose face wash that will help remove dirt and impurities from your skin without being too abrasive. Just make sure it doesn’t contain SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate), because it can dry out your skin and damage its protective barrier.
Look for a foaming cleanser that contains calming botanicals like chamomile or aloe vera to help replenish the skin’s hydration after a good wash.
Cleansing Creams are Ideal for Aging or Sensitive Skin
If you have mature or sensitive skin, cleansing creams are an excellent option. They provide hydration while protecting your skin from environmental aggressors like pollution and sun exposure. Cleansing creams usually come in rich balm or cream form. They’re designed to break down dirt using gentle emulsifiers rather than harsh detergents or acid.
Just remember not to use a bar of soap on your face! This can be incredibly drying and will strip away essential lipids that protect your skin.

Jarosite Thermal Clay – a New Skin Care Trend
The newest trend in skin care is jarosite thermal clay – it acts like all three types of cleanser mentioned above! Jarosite is unique because it reacts with water to create nutrient-rich foam that helps break down makeup and cleanse the pores without irritating the skin.
Plus, jarosite’s mineral content helps lock in moisture and keep skin hydrated all day long. If you’re looking to try something new and trendy but effective, a jarosite cleanser could be just what you need!
