Just one glass of tap water can have over 300 contaminants. The FDA regulates what chemicals can’t be in our water, even in trace amounts. There are regulations on some of the chemicals found in our water supply, but many of them can be legally present at any level! That’s scary.
Tap water often contains:
- Heavy metals (such as lead, iron, copper, magnesium, and zinc) which oxidize and create a chain reaction that attack and destroy collagen fibers, causing wrinkles and irritation
- Salts and minerals, which can cause skin dryness
- Chemicals such as fluoride and chlorine, which are added by our own water treatment plants.
Your water may be attacking your skin from the inside and the outside. Every time you take a drink, a shower, or even wash your face, you’re exposing yourself to these contaminants. Your water is attacking you and your skin from the inside and outside.
2. Eat Fruits and Vegetables Rich in Antioxidants
Plenty of fruits and vegetables are rich in antioxidants, which function to protect the skin from free radicals and environmental factors that cause premature skin aging.
There are two ways to achieve beautiful skin. The two best natural anti-aging remedies are the consumption of foods with vitamin E and antioxidants. Fruits like strawberries and pomegranates are packed with plenty of antioxidants. Veggies like red beans have a high concentration of antioxidants, too. Natural anti-aging foods are usually very healthy and will help your overall health, not just the youthfulness of your skin. Many fruits and vegetables that are high in antioxidants are also rich in fiber, which helps reduce your blood pressure and the risk of cancer. Making anti-aging natural foods that are high in antioxidants, like fruits and vegetables, part of your regular diet will naturally boost your skin’s glow while making the wrinkles less noticeable.
3. Why is Polyunsaturated Fat Bad for Your Skin?
The effects of polyunsaturated fats on your skin may take a long time to see, but the results are sure to leave you crying. Polyunsaturated fatty acids, sometimes shortened to “PUFAs,” have chemical properties that can make our skin more vulnerable to what beauty chemists call “free radicals.” Free radicals are groups of unstable atoms that can cause chemical reactions when exposed to oxygen.
All unsaturated fats have a double bond within a part of their chemical makeup called a fatty acid chain. Some unsaturated fats, like PUFAs, have multiple double bonds within their fatty chains, and the more double bonds within a fatty acid chain, the more unstable the fat is. The free radicals released from the oxidation process can bond with cell molecules, damaging cell DNA (which will eventually replicate, spreading the damage). Even worse, UV rays from the sun can speed up the oxidation process.
