It’s hard to believe that summer is already here! The weatherman says it’s been the hottest June on record and I can attest to that – it feels like summer has been going on for weeks now!
Summer is also a time when your skincare routine needs an extra boost. Here are 3 secrets that no one is talking about – who knows, you might just save your skin from a meltdown… literally!
1. Your Hair Needs Extra TLC
Many people don’t realize, but the summertime is brutal on the hair. As the summer sun rises, so does the maintenance required to keep hair looking its best.
For many people, this means regular trips to the salon for color treatments and styling. However, summer also brings with it its own unique challenges, from pool chemicals and humidity to relentless UV rays. The chlorine and the sun’s rays strip the moisture from your skin and hair, leaving hair brittle and skin drier than chalk.
So how can you protect your hair and keep it looking its best all summer long? The answer may surprise you:
Stop washing your hair so often.
That’s right – less is more when it comes to summer hair care. When you wash your hair less often, you strip away less of the natural oils that protect it from the elements. Instead, try using a dry shampoo in between washes to keep your hair looking clean and fresh.
And when you do wash your hair, be sure to use a mild shampoo and conditioner that won’t strip away vital moisture. Rinse your hair with clean water before getting in the pool, and use a leave-in conditioner after swimming to help hydrate your hair.
You can also try wearing a swimming cap. Not only will it keep your hair from getting wet, but it will also help to protect your hair from the harsh chemicals often found in pool water. If you’re not a fan of swim caps, however, don’t worry – there are plenty of other ways to keep your locks healthy and summer-ready.
Finally, don’t forget about protection from the sun. Just like your skin, your hair is susceptible to damage from UV rays. Be sure to use a leave-in conditioner or serum that contains SPF to help shield your hair from the summer sun.
By following these simple tips, you can enjoy summer without sacrificing the health of your hair – no salon required.
2. Summertime Skin Protection
Sunscreen, a hat with a visor, and sunglasses are your best friends during the sunny summer months – for children especially.
Make sure your family applies sunscreen 30 minutes before going out in the sun. The active ingredients need time to be absorbed in order to be effective. Apply before you leave the house and even before you put on your bathing suit.
The key is to make sure all areas are covered with sunscreen – not just the areas you think will be exposed. Cover feet, legs, torso, arms, hands, back, shoulders, neck, and face. Pay special attention to the ears, lips, eyes, and scalp (especially for guys with thinning to no hair). And since most sunscreen lotions can drip and irritate the eyes, consider a stick sunscreen for the face and around the eyes.
Another secret is to reapply, reapply, reapply! That’s right – reapply every 2 hours you are in the sun – or even more frequent if you have been swimming or sweating.

And FYI, don’t be fooled into thinking that you don’t need sunscreen because you’re not outside very much. That summer sun can do noticeable damage even through your windows, so make sure to keep a bottle of sunscreen handy at all times.
3. How to Be Sandal Ready This Summer!
Time to kick off your shoes and show off those painted toe nails. But wait – are your feet sandal ready?
Here’s how to get your feet sandal ready for the summer – invite over a few of your girlfriends and add some champagne to turn this into a real occasion!
- Start with a little bit of pampering by pouring lukewarm water in a bathtub or basin.
- Add baking soda (two dashes should do the trick) and your favorite essential oil.
- Indulge in your foot soak for at least 15 minutes.
- Towel dry your feet.
- While the skin is soft, you want to massage away the rough, dead skin using a large grain scrub like CrepeRx™ Body Exfoliator massaging it over your heels, soles and toes.
- Rinse well and massage your feet with a heavy cream, or my personal recommendation – CrepeRx™ Silky Soft Hands, Knees, Elbows, and Heels.
Now you’re ready to throw on a pair of your sexiest sandals and show off your soft feet. And by the way – if you are going out in the sun, remember to apply sunblock to your feet to prevent sunburn!
